AUGUST 2011 - Annual Tiangge, Fire, Security [and yada, yada, yada]

I decided to have a life, one that is completely mine; sadly, that was not entirely possible. As Uncle Mr. Parker said, 'To whom much is given, much is expected.' Yada, yada, yada...

Dear neighbors,

TIANGGE and DONATIONS

To those who have been asking why the tiangge at the end of the month is relocated to the mezzanine parking of C4 and C5, it is due to the weather.

This is the forecast from Accuweather, which my family and I have been using to forecast our travels anywhere.
http://www.accuweather.com/en-us/ph/metropolitan-manila/manila/forecast2.aspx

Hope you understand.

Also, to those who wish to participate, the two-day tiangge is a benefit event, specifically to raise funds for our firefighting teams.

We shall have one or two donation booths. Where residents can send down their donations in kind, for resell, to turn the donation into cash.

THE BOOTH

The booth is currently pegged at P200/day. No table rental yet. For table rental please add P50. Again, the chairs and tables are for everyone's use, purchased from previously raised funds. We are putting a price for the use so that it serves as your contract to protect the association's/ community's property.

Please await posters and details as to when to reserve for your slots.  We will include the new application form in this forum within the next two days. For slots visits/ ocular, please wait for the schedule.  But parking owners in the mezzanine will have the first priority to occupy their slots. Furthermore, it is being considered if they should have 50% discount in the rental of their booth, since it is, after all, their own slot.

COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS

Please reply or comment, for further improvement as to how we can manage a better tiangge.  This tiangge shall also be the first training tiangge for the handover of the activity to the admin, who shall be facilitating the event with the board of governors and events committee, eventually.

TIANGGE EARNINGS

Do not worry, I will propose and make it my mission that the admin make a separate ledger to any earnings of the tiangge henceforth, which can and will only be used specifically for projects that shall fund only improvement of recreation facilities and similar amenities.

Currently, there remains P60K-plus in the fund, as was published by the House Committee's latest FS report.

It has been discussed the remainder money be used to donate tamper-proof CCTV for every building elevator, the cabling of which shall be funded by the Association, if approved, if fund is enough... this remains a consideration.

Personally, although I am one of those who proposed the donation of the CCTV, I think we should just use the fund to improve the pool area by putting pergolas or trellis on both sides.

I understand that in the past Bing, along with some unit owners/ tenants close to her, did not appreciate the 'tambays' in the pool area or the perimeter of the admin office (who use the free internet), but I do not see the disadvantage of this trampling over the advantage of having a place to converge in.

In this high-density compound, there has to be a place to hang out at!

In DMCI, the clubhouse is wired and offers free internet. And in my observation, their clubhouse do not really turn out like a foodcourt, as once feared. Most residents have internet in their homes, and prefer the privacy.  But as an added feature to an existing dull amenity, the internet has turned it more attractive, don't you think?

LEAK IN CLUSTER 2/6

Leak in Cluster 2 has already been controlled and repaired. By this time, the holes on walls in every floor should be sealed shut already.

Cluster 6 leak of similar nature (riser and gasket issues) is currently under bidding.

DAMAGED GUTTERS

The envelopes are still sealed.

EXTRA GUARDS AND SMOKE-FIRE IN C9

Two weekends ago, there seemed to have been another threat. Two incidents of smoke/fire in Cluster 9.
August 7, a little past midnight, the roving security guard smelt smoke. Searching, he found it in the garbage chute floor of the 4/F. He called for back up and they eventually controlled it.

There was no text message to the Property Admin, Property Engineer or myself. There was no red alert raised that someone might be on the prowl again, pranking us to our smoky deaths.

And then, to make matters worse, the same incident was discovered on the 6/F of the same building, between 1AM to 2AM. The same manner of response was taken by the security team, and sadly, neither myself, nor the Admin was informed until Monday afternoon.

I personally learned of it from a text on Tuesday.

One should ask, should the security wait for the Admin to inform a resident board member of the emergency? It doesn't have to be me. At least one of us three, if they do not wish to inform me. Unfortunately for them, I am also the Safety and Security Committee Chair.  At the very least, I should be informed...

Honestly, it boggles the mind that the culprit/s for these two incidents are once again erring undisciplined smokers who are so addicted to their vice that they forget to put out the fire of their ciggies before throwing it in the pile - I don't think so.

Not after the recent happenings in this compound, I don't think so. Do you?

Suffice it to say, it is again time to be prudent, to be vigilant, that these recent incidents do not progress...

Goodluck to us all.

Very truly yours,
River

PS - GLOBE LANDLINE
To Globe phone line applicants, the installation should begin by the end of the month, at the latest =)
